Empowering authorities to apply carbon pricing during procurement processes

DeCarb-Pro aims to reduce carbon emissions resulting from procurement by local authorities in Northwest Europe. Because public procurement has a key impact on carbon emissions. We want to achieve this goal by implementing carbon pricing in tenders put out by local authorities.

CO2 pricing ultimately reduces a country's overall emissions. Indeed, companies are encouraged to compete with each other by offering products and services that also include environmental costs.

Valuable experience

The Dutch and France partners already have valuable experience and knowledge in the field of CO2 pricing. They are using this expertise for the project to develop a strategy, together with all DeCarb-Pro partners, to make CO2 pricing part of local governments' procurement policies. Pilots are being launched for practical implementation. With training courses, the partners will transfer the knowledge gained to other interested parties.

Objectives of DeCarb-Pro

  • Reduce CO₂ emissions and improve energy efficiency in authorities' procurement processes
  • Active involvement of 85+ authorities in the DeCarb-Pro project
  • Train local authorities in applying CO2 pricing
  • Pilots with local authorities to achieve CO2 reduction in procurement processes
