  • To develop partnerships with >60 organisations from Danmark, Portugal, Sweden and Belgium

Are you?

  • Construction contractor, real-estate, property developer, asset manager or renovation company with sustainable ambitions,
  • IT consultants or providers: AI, sensoring, visual recognition, data, BIM, robotics and automation
  • Involved in local network around building material recovery: materials bank, passport, demolition, demolition, waste containers, material sorting, material reuse, contractor, consultant
  • Producer of modular building elements, prefabricated elements, designer
  • Producer of building materials and bio-based building materials
  • Demolition or recycling of building materials
  • Government: waste management, regulation, certification

Priority topics

The priority themes in the 3 regions for follow-up projects are:

  • Urban Mining
    • Data needs and connection of data in the value chain "urban mining".
    • Setting up local networks: "Just-in-time" from site to site recovery and reuse
  • Modular Design
    • Standardisation of building elements, modular design and interoperability
    • Renovation wave as momentum for modular and change-oriented construction
  • Materials
    • Certification of recovery and bio-based materials
    • From basic material to building element
    • Recycling of specific materials
  • Training
    • Circular construction techniques and modular design
    • Reuse and urban mining

Process

During this workshop, common circularity challenges and priorities in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and Portugal will be discussed. As an introduction, ongoing projects, innovations, knowledge, and technology from Flanders will be presented. Afterwards, you can interact with innovative SMEs, knowledge institutions, public actors, and other experts from different regions on specific topics. You can co-develop actions and/or joint projects that are needed to address the identified cross-regional challenges.

Agenda

A. Introduction to the common priorities and challenges by topic experts

  • Material Bank: Leuven
  • Material Passport: C-ID
  • Biobased Materials: The exploded view
  • Cooperation within the value chain:
    • demolition teams; or
    • cooperation for circular design & construction

B . Break-outs:

  • Choose one of the actions or priorities
  • Interact & share ideas within the group to see if there are potential follow-up actions or projects required:
    • Can existing projects/initiatives be replicated in other regions?
    • Do new projects have to be initiated?
  • See where international collaboration is possible
  • Form taskforces or consortia to set up these new projects and initiatives

C. Presentation of project ideas and feedback

D. Wrap-up and next steps for project development

The workshop is part of the project 3R Connect – Reduce, Reuse, and Rethink.

The project is funded by the European Union and facilitated by Clean, Flux50, and Smart Waste Portugal

The purpose of the project is to:

  • Map and analyze regional capacities and potentials for a circular economy
  • Identify key value chains, technologies, and innovation areas
  • Develop plans for new cross-regional projects focusing on R&D, matchmaking, new value chains, capacity building, knowledge exchange, pilot & demonstration, public procurement etc.
