European Utility Week is just around the corner
And with more than 400 speakers planned in just three days, it’s difficult to know what to attend
You could begin with the HUB sessions, project presentations that offer concrete solutions to current energy challenges. But wait! You might prefer to chase up your special pass to theSummit conference: It brings together C-level experts from the utility industry and offers them a platform to brainstorm and lay out strategies for energy transition. Of course, you’ll need to make sure you leave time to drop by the Flanders Taste Tour, and the Belgian Beer Café at the Flemish Pavilion is a must for everyone …
It’s not going to be easy to plan you European Utility Week without missing anything. We decided to help with a quick guide. We have divided the different events using the buzz words doing the rounds this year: digitisation, consumer-centricity, decarbonisation, the energy revolution, energy markets and innovation.

Digitisation
• In the HUB sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, we delve deeper into DSOs and energy consumption data as drivers for new business models.
• Are you interested in smart meter read outs, protocols and big data exploration? Make sure you’re at the HUB session on the last day.
• The Summit focuses on the challenges inenabling technologies, blockchain and digital citizens.
Consumer-centricity
There are numerous project presentations zooming in on the central position of the consumer and the drivers and innovations related to consumer-centricity, as well as the use of IoT in Smart Cities.
Speakers from Flanders include:
• Frederik Loeckx (Flux50)
• Johan Driesen (EnergyVille)
• Virginia Gomez Onate (VITO)
• Tatiana Pasquel Garcia (EnergyVille)
• Lean Govaerts (EnergyVille).

Decarbonisation
The decarbonisation Summit wants to stimulate debate on three keys factors relating to integrated renewable energy systems:
• Management;
• Regulation;
• Commercial viability of storage.
Make sure you’re there to here from speakers from Flanders including:
• Bert Gysen (EnergyVille)
• Dirk Vansintjan (REScoop).
The energy revolution
What do you need to fully integrate systems and benefit from a smarter grid? Discover the answer at Energy Revolution. At the same time, you’ll hear more about local energy communities and microgrids, the role of electrification in decarbonisation and you’ll be given an inside look at how Europe ranks against the rest of the world.
Speakers from Flanders include:
• Dirk Vansintjan (REScoop)

Energy markets
What is the future of trading? How do you monetise flexibility? The new market designs are the big topic in the sessions on energy markets.
Speakers from Flanders include:
• Bart Pycke (Yuso)
Innovation
Take a look at the new solutions being pursued by start-ups at the Initiate! Hub
Don’t forget to sign up for the Flemish pavilion! Flux50 and six other companies will offer brief insights into Flemish assets for burning energy topics.
Join us every day at 4p.m. at booth B.b20 and familiarise yourself with solutions for challenges in:
• Nearly zero energy districts;
• Energy in buildings;
• Digitising energy.

And if you still have time left?
Check out the side events and networking receptionshosted by foreign pavilions and exhibitors. It will allow you to join, for example, the French pavilion (Hal A) for a drink and networking opportunity on 7 November at 5p.m.
