Fluxys and North Sea Port reduce CO2 emissions in Scheldt-Delta region

By capturing CO2, reusing it or storing it underground (CCUS) a  cross-border consortium of Dutch and Flemish companies lead by Smart Delta Resources is taking the first step to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% in the port area of North Sea Port (Ghent, Terneuzen, Vlissingen).  This is 6.5 million tons of CO2 per year.

The Carbon Connect Delta project starts with a feasibility study which  examines all aspects: the technical, economic and legal aspects, the necessary infrastructure for the transport of CO2 by pipeline or ship, the financing possibilities, the commercial feasibility and the licensing procedures. The consortium expects to complete the feasibility study by the end of 2020, after which the project will be further developed for realisation.

The consortium is made up of Smart Delta Resources, Flux50 members North Sea Port Authority & Fluxys, ArcelorMittal, Dow Benelux, PZEM, Yara and Zeeland Refinery and Gasunie. The consortium's ambition is to capture 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year as early as 2023 and to expand this to a level of 6.5 million tonnes per year by 2030, which will reduce CO2 emissions in the Scheldt-Delta region by 30%.
