EDF Luminus builts new wind turbines and a network of electrical loading points. Eandis, Vito and Kempens Warmtebedrijf will create a heating-network based on geothermic energy in Mol and Dessel. Since december the first version of the SmarThor ICT Platform, developed by EnergyVille, is up and running at Thor Park in Waterschei, Genk.

Eandis starts with the construction of a heating network in Mol and Dessel

Eandis will start in 2018 with the implementation of a heating network for hundreds of local buildings in Mol and Dessel. The network will be connected to new geothermic central in Mol that Vito is planning to build. High temperatures from the underlying earth layers are the heating source.  Kempens Warmtebedrijf will take the role of heat-supplier.
The total network will be about 30 km. 1800 buildings will be connected to the network and that will save 22 600-ton CO2 a year. The communes Mol and Dessel keep an eye on the works on their territory and give support in the field of communication

EnergyVille connects Thor Park to the Internet of Things.

The first version of the SmarThor ICT platform that is developed by EnergyVille is operational in Thor Park in Waterschei, Genk since December 2017. SmarThor balances the offer and consumption of thermic and electric energy by using the Internet of Things. Typical for this site of Waterschei is that the water in the underlying mine corridors might be an interesting storage place for the extra heat in the summer so it can be used during winter.

The SmarThor Project is part of SALK project 936 “Towards a durable energy supply in cities” and is made possible with the financial help of EFRO, the Flemish government, the province of Limburg and it is realised by KULeuven, VITO, Imec, UHasselt through cooperative research via EnergyVille.

The technology of the Internet of Things supports smart systems and future test areas no matter where they are located, with a connection to the SmarThor ICT Platform. In future there could be a virtual electricity, heat and coldness market to exchange the surplus of energy. It measures the energy stream and analyses it to make better use of it.

SmarThor 2.0. that will be available in the beginning of 2018, will use the platform to coordinate sun energy prediction posts, heat pumps and gas containers to adapt the energy demand to the availability of the durable generated energy.

EDF Luminus constructs for the future

EDF Luminus built 6 new wind turbines at Katoen Nation in Kallo. The project was inaugurated on December 14 by vice prime minister Kris Peeters. The turbines have 3.2 MW of power and will yearly produce 52.350 MWh green energy. This is an equivalent of the yearly consumption of 13.000 households. This way an emission of 22.600-ton CO2 will be avoided which can be compared with a thermic coal central.

EDF Luminus has 18 loading points at territories of Q8 and another 7 at Decathlon. This fast loading points belong to the European Unit E- network which consists of 300 loading points. The loading capacity is 50 Kw. Flemish Minister for Finance, Budget and Energy Bart Tommelein inaugurated the network on December 11, 2017.
