World Energy Outlook 2018: the global role of energy in the past year
On 5 February 2019, Agoria and Federal Public Services for Economy hosted their annual session to present the World Energy Outlook of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
This report is published every year. Based on objective data, it provides an analysis of and insights on trends in energy demand and supply, the current and future energy mix and the main challenges for the climate and economic development in the longer term.
Some of this year’s conclusions were:
- There are clear links between energy & geopolitics. These are growing stronger and continue to play a major role in energy security.
- The fast growth of electricity brings huge opportunities, but markets need to deliver both electricity and flexibility.
- The solution to cut down emissions is a complementary mix of renewables, energy efficiency, and innovative technology – e.g. storage, CCUS and hydrogen.
As always, this was the perfect opportunity to meet and greet the Belgian energy community. We’re very much looking forward to next year’s edition.
